Total Dominance

In a recent article Senior Colonel Liu Mingfu of the People’s Liberation Army, states that China big goal in the 21st century is to become the world number one, the top power. The statement was quoted from a book released in January but predominately sold publicly. The Colonel goes on to state that if they are not able to accomplish that goal then the country will fall to the waist side.

I wonder how realistic is that goal. China has an extremely large population, great minds, a growing economic infrastructure, and army. A problem with that theory is that they have to compete with world powers such as United States and Europe. While they account for a lot of our national debt, we are there largest importer of goods, both countries military are far superior than that of China, and in my humble opinion there is room for growth and positioning, but the only way to become the new number one would be to have a more powerful military. For example the reason why Russia is still considered a world power is because of there vast nuclear weapons.

Our westernized egos is to inflated for that to happen also. Americans will fight tooth and nail to hold on to that distinction. and I also feel that to many other countries lean on the structure and political backing that both United States and Europe provides to allow that to happen. My last not and of course my own personal opinion is that the governing style of China is not one that will allow them to become the number one world power. Coming from a democratic society I feel that the structure of our government and other westernized societies give us the upper hand.

  1. Good choice of article and well thought out reflections. You have to keep in mind though that this may or may not be the collective views of the people or even the omniscient government of China. Your grade is 4 points. Watch out for spelling and grammar mistakes.
